Champions For Education

Introduction
Ottawa 67's Champions for Education continues for the 2012-2013 season. The goal is for elementary students to benefit from a visit to their school by the Ottawa 67's organization.

With the support of the Ottawa Citizen, University of Ottawa,  Interactive Audio Visual and the Ottawa 67's, players will visit area elementary schools to deliver positive messages about teamwork, goal setting, and anti-bullying.

Target Audience
As part of the Ottawa 67's ongoing commitment to the young people in our community, we value feedback about this program from teachers and parents. The primary goal of the program is to deliver positive messages to elementary school children.

Recognizing the wide range of ages and other significant issues, it is reasonable to suggest that the program would be most popular with students in grades 4-6. That being the case, it is important to note that this does not exclude K-3 or grades 7-8 from being part of an assembly.

Speaking Points
With valuable input from a number of elementary school teachers, our players have been briefed on the messages that need to be delivered to students. The notes have been tailored to the different grade groupings, primary, junior and senior, with whom they are speaking to create a positive and fun message. The Ottawa 67's would be pleased to share these with any teachers or principals and would welcome your thoughts and comments.

Scheduling and Timing
While we try to accommodate all timing requests, our players are in school, and have practice so we do try to be flexible.

Our players will play up the fact that you and your students will be attending their game within the next 1 1/2 weeks to get the students excited.

The presentation lasts for approximately one hour. Players will make themselves available following the presentation for school yearbook photographs, subject to the rules and regulations of each individual school.

While we know this can be one of the more exciting and fun aspects of our visit for many students, the Ottawa 67's will always aim to be respectful of the fact that we are guests in a learning environment. We will do our best to not cause a distraction for the students from their important educational pursuits.

Should you wish to have your school participate in an Ottawa 67's school visit, please email Marc Hoey at marc@ottawa67s.com or call 613-324-0067.

Testimonials
Please accept our sincere thanks for delivering a wonderful presentation today at Featherston. Adam and Adam were very brave to speak in front of such a large group of students (and teachers!) and they really won us over with their message and their humour. They are very personable young men and are to be commended for their commitment to their community. Brian had many of the teachers teary-eyed with his engaging and inspiring story about the impact that his teacher, Mr. Archambault had on his life. I know if really made me think about about the influence and that all of us as teachers have on our students' lives on a daily basis. We were particularly impressed with the way that Brian handled the questions from our students, even those that didn't seem remotely related to the theme of the morning:) You all showed a great deal of patience and empathy and it didn't go unnoticed.
Thanks again and we look forward to working with you in the future.
Take care,
Maggie
