The Ontario Hockey League announced today the winners of the three academic awards. The Ivan Tennant Memorial Award, awarded to the Top Academic High School Player. This year’s recipient is Joe Pleckaitis. Joe is a very dedicated student who has achieved consistently high marks throughout the year.
The Roger Neilson Memorial Award is given for outstanding achievement at the university or college level. This year’s recipient, for the second year in a row, is Danny Battochio. Danny is completing his second and final year at Algonquin in the Police Foundations Program.
The Bobby Smith Award is given annually to the player who best combines high standards of play and academic excellence. This year’s recipient, who for two years has carried a full course load while amassing impressive statistics as the Ottawa 67’s goaltender, is Danny Battochio.
“We are extremely proud of Danny and Joe’s accomplishments both on and off the ice. We realize the commitment it takes to combine both school and studies with a hockey career and we want to congratulate Danny and Joe on their success” said Head Coach and GM Brian Kilrea.
