Dear Coaches/Managers:
The sponsors of this program believe it's important to get involved with kids and the community. This program is an excellent way to promote the positive values of minor hockey with the emphasis on being involved in a team sport and having fun playing the game.
The program is designed to encourage, support and reward minor hockey players for their hard work, dependability, enthusiasm and to highlight effort and improvement over the season. The players who will earn the award are not always the kids that scored the most goals. We want kids to know that there is value in belonging to a team and in attributes such as teamwork and sportsmanship.
Players who are awarded the Hardest Working Player Award will receive the following:
- Hardest Working Player Hard Hat – player can proudly wear this hat and display it to teammates and friends in recognition of his/her contribution to the team.
- Certificate of Merit – this is signed by Brian Kilrea and includes a place for the coach or manager to write in the name of the player.
- Coupon from Lone Star Texas Grill
- Player's names will be included in a full-page advertisement in the Ottawa Citizen (date to be determined) recognizing the Hardest Working Player recipients for the 2009-2010-hockey season. A representative from your team will need to email the team list to be included in this advertisement. Email list to hardhat@ottawa67s.com. Be sure to include your name, your team name and association won the team list.
Here's how a Successful Hardest Working Player Program Works:
- Take a moment with your co-coaches and manager to identify what qualities in your players that you want to motivate or improve (these do not have to be skill related and can be very specific to each player). After each game or practice, choose a player who will receive the award. The goal is to have every player on the team receive the reward.
- Award the hard hat to the chosen player. The player will have possession of the team hard hat until the next game (or practice) to proudly display to family and friends. You can have each recipient sign the hat. At the end of the season, you can decide who will receive the hat to keep. This could become a team gift to the coach or manager or they could do a draw of all the player's names for one player to keep.
- Have fun with the program. Questions regarding the program should be directed to Erin Roberts or hardhat@ottawa67s.com

Testimonials
As a first year participant of the Hardest Working Player Program, I felt that giving a "hard hat" perfectly recognized the achievements of a player who, not only worked hard in our games, but also showed sportsmanship and teamwork. It was exciting to see their faces light up when their names were called out and the cheers from fellow players made them feel like they were on top of the world. Each player always signed the hard hat and wore it proudly out to the lobby so their parents and friends could see. Along with the many sponsors that contributed to this great program, it was great to give each player a Lone Star gift coupon and a certificate from Coach Kilrea that made them feel like one day, they too, could play in the OHL for a great team like the Ottawa 67's.
Thank you for helping to make this a great year for the Nepean Dark Knights Novice B Hockey Team!
-Greg, Head Coach

Here is the picture of Jakob sleeping with "Hard working hat". Thanks, it made his day and lifted his spirit after a shaky start. Most appreciated.
